We all understand personally what stress is, but it can be a challenge to define.
One definition is the emotional or physiological tension or strain from adverse circumstances.

There are a number of sources of stress.

These include both:
• external sources – like traffic, financial issues, work demands or social and family
struggles –
• internal sources – like our thoughts, such as a negative interpretation of a situation that
triggers a stress response.

Stress is very subjective: What one person finds enjoyable (for example, knitting or motorcycle
racing) might be stressful for the next.
