What is YOUR Personal Legacy?

16 January

Personal LegacyLegacy is an interesting word. And like many things, when you start to think about them, you see them everywhere. Having a Personal Legacy is one of those words and concepts.

What is it all about?

I’ve seen quite a bit about it lately in everything from company names to conversations, articles and ideas.

What do you think of when you hear the word legacy?

If I were to ask you,

♥What do you perceive your legacy to be?

♥What would you tell me?

Is it the economic ‘inheritance’ you leave to your family?

That concept of working your entire life so you have ‘something’ to leave behind – usually a monetary gift.

♥Is it something else you’ll be remembered for?

♥Is it something you do intentionally to make your mark on the world?

We all have a personal legacy, some of us more deliberately than others.

I submit to you that your personal legacy is something worth claiming – or reclaiming as the case might be.

♥If you were to sit down and make a list of your best qualities what would those be?

♥If you were to make another list of those you’ve had an impact on, who would they be?

Sometimes we don’t realize the impact we have on others and we tend to think of other people having something memorable or lasting and forget about our own impact.

Neurobiologists report that we all have mirror neurons in our brains. That we affect other people by mirroring their moods and behaviors. That’s why smiling at someone, or offering a kind word can make a tremendous impact, one we may not even be aware of.

A friend of mind recounted an experience of doing some business networking and making a point of talking to people she had regular contact with, but not in any ‘perceived’ meaningful way.

For instance, the clerk at the bank, or people in various shops she frequented.

When she reached out to them for business purposes, many of them responded to her positively saying how much they liked and respected her and how happy they’d be to help her, work with her, pass on her name, provide referrals. She was really surprised that people had that much of an impression of her or had thought about her at all.

That’s a personal legacy. Turns out she’s very friendly and kind whenever she encounters people and she leaves a legacy of making people feel good, and valued.

Your personal legacy might be large, it may be smaller, but those intangible qualities that you possess – and others remember – are the stuff life is made of and it matters. You matter. Probably more than you realize.

Go forth and create your personal legacy with purpose and determination.

To quote the great Margaret Mead:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

If you are holding back to the level of the lowest common denominator you will never experience abundance.

Whatever it is, these resistances are just a start.  Work with me and I will help you make the breakthroughs, where you will notice immediate change.  http://www.passionandpossibilities.com/coaching-programs/session
